Nel 2035, un virus ha sterminato il 99% dell’umanità, costringendo i sopravvissuti a vivere sottoterra. James Cole, un detenuto, viene inviato indietro nel tempo per raccogliere informazioni sull’origine del contagio, apparentemente legato a un misterioso gruppo chiamato “L’esercito delle 12 scimmie”.
Il viaggio nel tempo, però, è instabile: Cole finisce in epoche sbagliate, viene scambiato per folle e incontra personaggi che potrebbero essere la chiave del mistero.
